CreditRepair.com Credit Repair Review

One of the best-known credit repair companies, CreditRepair.com has been helping consumers resolve credit disputes since 2012. But just because a credit repair company has been in business for decades doesn’t mean she offers the best services. Although CreditRepair.com offers a competitive range of plans, there are also a few red flags you should be aware of before deciding to sign up for credit repair services.

The benefits explained

  • Offers a free credit check: Get a free online credit overview that includes your credit score, a summary of negative items on your report, and suggestions on how to fix them.
  • Choose from three service levels: CreditRepair.com offers basic, moderate, or aggressive credit repair options depending on your needs.
  • Robust educational library: Even non-customers can take advantage of the free credit information, videos, and interactive calculators at CreditRepair.com.
  • Mobile app available: Download the free CreditRepair.com mobile app to track your progress and receive alerts.
  • Internal credit monitoring option: CreditRepair.com has in-house credit monitoring services. These services may be included in your package.

Disadvantages Explained

  • Mixed Customer Feedback and CFPB Issues: CreditRepair.com receives mixed reviews from customers depending on which site you visit. In addition, the CFPB sued the company and there are consumer complaints against it in the CFPB database.
  • Lack of full price transparency: Pricing is not disclosed upfront on the CreditRepair.com website, and you should be aware of hidden charges. They mention that one of the plans has a monthly fee of $99.95, but they don’t even say which one.
  • Limited monthly disputes: Monthly disputes are limited depending on the plan you choose.
  • No Money Back Guarantee: Many competitors offer refunds if they are unable to remove items from your report, but CreditRepair.com does not have a similar policy.

Kinds of services

CreditRepair.com offers three service packages with tiered service levels. These are designed with the idea that not all customers need the same level of support to repair their credit; some may only have a bug or two to fix, while others need a complete overhaul. This saves customers money by not paying for services they will likely never use.

Creditrepair.com offers three different plans. With each plan you will get a different level of service. Between the three plans, things like credit monitoring, the number of disputes per month, what they will dispute, and the level of support and assistance you receive will differ. The plans are called Basic, Moderate, and Aggressive.

Optional modules

Creditrepair.com does not offer many add-ons or optional services. However, they have an option called Quick Start Service which starts the process faster in exchange for a one-time fee. However, their site has no information about it and you have to go to the payment page to see it.

Pay close attention when completing the payment process on CreditRepair.com. The company automatically checks the box by selecting Quick Start, and unless you uncheck it, you’ll be charged an extra $14.99 for a service you may not want or need.

Customer service

The primary points of contact for CreditRepair.com customer service are email and telephone. Phone service is available Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. MST and during shorter hours on weekends.

Customers can also download a mobile app for easier access to their account dashboard and credit score tracking. The app is available for iOS and Android and gets positive ratings in both stores with a 4.7 from Apple and 4.5 from Google.

Company reputation

CreditRepair.com’s services seem to offer good value with a wide range of services. Customers seemed to have mixed opinions about it. The company receives a wide range of high, medium, and low scores depending on the customer review source you are viewing.

More concerning is that CreditRepair.com has been the subject of six complaints to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in the past three years. Worse, he was sued by the agency in 2019. According to the lawsuit, CreditRepair.com and another company owned by the same holding company, Lexington Law, both violated telemarketing laws and charged repair fees. illegal credit before any service has been rendered. This violates the Credit Repair Organizations Act, which states that credit repair companies cannot collect payment before providing their services.

If you have a complaint about the services of a credit repair company, you can file a complaint with the FTC or call 877-FTC-HELP.

Contract duration

None of CreditRepair.com’s service plans are contract-free, which means you can cancel at any time without penalty. According to the company, most customers have to pay membership fees for an average of six months to see results.

Cost

CreditRepair.com offers three tiers of service, but they only advertise on their site that one option costs $99.95 per month.

To stay in compliance with the Credit Repair Organizations Act, CreditRepair.com calls its first month of membership fees a “First Job Fee.” This is because credit repair companies are not allowed to start charging monthly fees until they have already started doing work. From a practical point of view, this does not change anything for the consumer, but it is something to be aware of when signing up for credit repair.

The Competition: CreditRepair.com vs. the Credit Pros

No two credit repair services are the same. To gauge how CreditRepair.com stacks up against the competition, we pitted it against The Credit Pros. Credit Pros offers more comprehensive services, but their prices seem to be a bit higher because two of their three plans cost more than the published price we have for CreditRepair.com.

While The Credit Pros is more expensive, we find the difference justified. All plans include credit monitoring and identity theft protection. Credit Pros will also submit an unlimited number of disputes on your behalf. Finally, The Credit Pros offers financial management tools to all of its credit repair customers that CreditRepair.com does not match. These include bill payment reminders, a budgeting system, and automatic synchronization with your open accounts.

Verdict

Looking at CreditRepair.com’s plans and services, it seems to offer much better value than competitors, especially considering the credit monitoring offering. However, we are very concerned about the volume of customer complaints and CreditRepair.com’s history with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau legislation. It is best to proceed with caution with this company.
